Dream Cruise Entry Takes Second in MotorCity Contest
In August 2006, MotorCity Casino challenged nine Metro Detroit artists to rev their
creative engines and paint the town for “Cruisin’ Art,” a competition that stationed
local artists across nine host communities during the Woodward Dream Cruise,
putting their artistic ability to the test.
Artist Victor Pytko was located in Birmingham just north of Maple Ave. His piece
took second place.
The contest required participants to incorporate three specific elements into their
three by five foot pieces – MotorCity Casino’s new “flames,” the MotorCity Casino
logo and the essence of the Woodward Dream Cruise.
The artists had just six hours on Aug. 19 to complete their work using any media.
The pieces had to arrive at the Civic Center in Pontiac by 5 p.m. to be eligible
for judging. Each of the nine finalists were awarded a cash prize (ranging from
$100 to $1,000) based on their ranking by the judges and
The Woodward Dream Cruise is the largest one-day car event in the world,
attracting over one million participants and 40,000 classic cars each year. The
summer classic celebrates the ‘50s and ‘60s when Woodward Avenue was the
heart and soul of American cruising in the city that put America on wheels.
Cruisers drive along a 16-mile stretch of boulevard through the nine host
communities just north of Detroit, while spectators line much of the route enjoying
the Motor City’s perennial love affair with the automobile.
