PAINT A PICTURE
Victor Pytko 62, spied the lovely Barbara Porter, 63, at a Detroit
Economic Club luncheon in 1996 while both were working in
highpowered jobs in public relations and marketing. While
intrigued by a new face, Victor had no idea Barbara would
awaken his longing to exhibit artwork professionally.
“Art is a gift we give each other,” Victor says. The couple
married in 1998 on a trip to Scotland. “She’s helped me
overcome the personal demons that haunt me about whether
or not my work has value to the art world. She’s there as
moral support.”
Barbara – a board member of the Royal-Oak (Mich.) based
Fanclub for the Arts Foundation – wanted a contemporary
house in Birmingham (Mich.) filled with so much original art,
she could select pictures to match the seasons, and even
pair art with dinner guests. Victor made the dream possible.
He and Barbara often attend gallery shows together, and they
run a business, PorterPytko Marketing and Public Relations,
from their home. Victor also is public relations liaison for Econ
Global Services in Troy, (Mich.).
Real artistry, according to Melva Thomas Johnson, a Royal
Oak therapist with Personal Transformations, is drawing a
picture of marital harmony that both can agree to make
possible. In workshops for couples, she asks participants to
brainstorm about the kind of home that inspires
companionship, the type of décor and the kind of jobs they
would conduct inside and outside the home.
“Speak your dreams out loud,” she says. “Sincere
communication can lead to miracles.”
